This is an example of a supported hook as it is necessary to have a picture rail which is a moulded piece of wood usually fitted about 1.8 (6’) from floor level around the room but it’s position depends on ceiling height. The picture moulding has a curved top and the broad end of the hook clips over the rail. It is important not to confuse picture rail with dado rail as the moulding hook will only fit picture rail The picture hook needs no fixings but the picture rail needs to be fitted securely to the wall. The picture cord, wire or chain is placed over the small lip part of the hook.
These picture hooks are designed to be pinned to the wall using the 24mm hardened pins supplied. The No 1 and 2 have a single fixing point while No 3 has 2 fixing points. The No 1 hook is 23mm long and the No 2 hook is 27mm long and will support lightweight pictures. The 2pin or double No 3 hook can support a medium weight picture. The weight capacity of these hooks depends in the structure of the wall. Wood, plasterboard, or masonry.
There are 3 sizes with 2, 3 or 4 pins depending on the size. The pins are hammered into the plaster. Only a hammer is needed for fitting.
Having put up the hook these fittings are used to secure the picture to the hook. This is done with either D rings, screw rings screw eyes and picture wire or picture twine.
These are available slotted for removal and plain for permanent fixing. Each plate has 3 holes (slotted 1 keyhole shaped) The 2 holes along the straight side are screwed to the picture frame with the hole on the domed side projecting out the side of the frame which is then screwed to the wall.
The plain version is often used in public rooms such as bars and hotel bedrooms to help prevent casual removal.
Flushmounts are used for fitting wooden backed mirrors amongst other specific applications. Supplied as a 2part set.
